Discover one of the most beautiful beaches in Tenerife

Do you want to discover more incredible places in Tenerife? In this new article we show you how to get to one of the most beautiful beaches in Tenerife.

Playa Grande is a beach located in the municipality of Arico, in Punta de Abona, near the coastal town of Porís de Abona. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Tenerife. Light brown sand, crystalline waters, views of the Teide peak, and at low tide the beach is large, ideal for walking, playing shovels, or simply lying down to sunbathe.

It is advisable to visit this beach when there is not much wind in order to enjoy it to the fullest. This beach is located in one of the windiest areas of the island of Tenerife, which is why there are different wind farms around it. When the wind is calm (not many days a year) it is wonderful.

When is the ideal season to visit it?

Playa Grande normally has a medium-low occupancy almost all year round, except for the summer months when it is medium. It is not a beach well known by tourists, and its visitors are usually the people who live in the surrounding area.

The beach has a small car park next to the road where several cars fit, the rest normally park on the edges of the road where they do not disturb traffic. It is a beach that is not normally supervised, so it is recommended to be attentive and use caution, although it does not usually have strong currents.

How to get to Playa Grande?

From the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, take the Avenida Marítima TF-11 in a southwesterly direction, passing the Auditorium and the Fairgrounds. Continue along the TF-4 passing the refinery area until you reach the TF-1 southern highway.

Once on the TF-1, take the Porís de Abona exit (Exit nº 39). Continue towards Poris de Abona. At the first roundabout continue towards El Porís (towards the sea). At the second roundabout, continue straight until the first street where you can turn right into Calle José Alberto.

Continue along Calle Real (200m), Calle La Morra (850m) and finally Calle Buenviaje (750m) until you find the parking area on the left side of the road. Once you have left the car in that area, you will see the stone path that goes down to the beach.
